BlueScope is pleased to provide thermal values including Solar Absorptance (SA) and Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) and colour values (RGB and HEX) for the COLORBOND® steel colour range.
Designed to weather the unique Australian land, COLORBOND® steel in a Classic finish provides a low sheen aesthetic that is celebrated in striking architecture, providing longevity and durability for the design.
COLORBOND® steel in a Matt finish is soft in appearance yet highly resilient. It offers a subtle, high-end aesthetic that complements beautiful architecture by diffusing reflected light to create a contemporary, tactile look.
COLORBOND® Coolmax® steel is a roofing material designed to provide low solar absorptance, which may help to reduce roofing temperatures and keep the building cooler2.
COLORBOND® Ultra steel is designed for severe marine environments3. It is available in 7 core colours in a Classic finish and other colours may be available on request.

COLORBOND® steel’s Fence colours offer a wide range of nature inspired colour choices. Each of these core colours will work seamlessly with a range of contemporary Australian design palettes.
In addition to COLORBOND® steel, BlueScope also manufactures a range of other coated steel brands including SUPERDURA® Stainless steel, ZINCALUME® steel, TRUECORE® steel, DECKFORM® steel and GALVASPAN® steel.
SUPERDURA® Stainless steel is BlueScope’s ultimate prepainted steel product for corrosion resistance and weatherability. It is designed typically for use within 100m of the severe environment3 and is available in 4 popular colours.
ZINCALUME® steel is an aluminium / zinc / magnesium alloy coated steel with a regular spangled surface. The Activate® technology is designed to slow the rate of corrosion, resulting in longer-lasting protection.
Solar Absorptance (SA) is a measure of how much of the sun’s heat that a material absorbs. Choosing a colour with a lower SA is a cooler option and may help to meet building regulations such as NCC or BASIX. These are nominal values based on new product and measured in accordance with ASTM E 903-96. For further information refer to BlueScope Technical Bulletin TB 39 Thermal performance of roofing materials.
Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) provides a guide of a surface’s ability to reject solar heat, on the basis of the relative temperature of surfaces with respect to a reference black (SRI=0) and white surface (SRI=100). The SRI value of a surface is calculated from its solar reflectance and thermal emittance. These are nominal values based on new product and determined in accordance with ASTM E1980-11.
Thermal values published 23/8/2022.
In addition to COLORBOND® steel, BlueScope also manufactures a range of other coated steel brands including SUPERDURA® Stainless steel, ZINCALUME® steel, TRUECORE® steel, DECKFORM® steel and GALVASPAN® steel.
SUPERDURA® Stainless steel is designed for very severe marine environments2.
2. Compared to conventional roofing materials of lower reflectance index (SRI), such as ZINCALUME® steel and all other roofing materials in the COLORBOND® steel range. The extent to which a building is cooler may vary and depend upon the particular circumstances of your building, including building location, level of insulation, location of air-conditioning when installed, building shape, building function and environmental factors. For further information refer to Stockland case study. Available exclusively in the colour Whitehaven®.
3. For further guidance on choosing the right product for your project please refer to BlueScope Technical Bulletins 1A and 1B. Absolute performance is subject to local conditions including, but not limited to, prevailing winds, and the presence of unwashed areas. Distance is as measured from the high water/tide mark.
